Mesothelioma - CALL HALL
Every year thousands of people die or become ill due to exposure to asbestos. This exposure to asbestos can cause mesothelioma and asbestosis cancers. Mesothelioma which is almost exclusively caused by asbestos exposure and other asbestos related illnesses are attributed to negligence because asbestos companies knew about the associated health risks since the 1920's and chose not to tell anyone.
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer. In this disease malignant cells can develop in the protective lining that covers most of the body’s internal organs. Most common areas are in the lungs and around the heart. Most people who have developed mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles or have been exposed to asbestos dust and fiber in other ways. Washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos can also put a person at risk for developing mesothelioma. If you have been recently diagnosed with mesothelioma your exposure probably occurred somewhere between 20 and 50 years ago. Mesothelioma typically goes undetected until the final stages when it is too late to treat.
Asbestosis is another illness caused by asbestos exposure. It is more common than mesothelioma. Asbestosis is not cancer but it can kill you. Like mesothelioma, there is no cure for asbestosis however there are treatments than can help you live longer and improve your quality of life. Many victims of mesothelioma and asbestos have worked in the Navy/Armed Forces, shipyards, mills, carpentry, roofing, insulation, construction and automotive industries.
Even if a loved one has had one of these diseases and has died, their family may still be entitled to make a claim. The companies that manufacture and use asbestos have knowingly chosen to expose their workers and the general public to a deadly substance.
